Community Animal Network named a male tabby kitten that has the look of the popular Main
Coon breed, Stevie Wonder, because without a necessary treatment
that would correct eyelid agenesis he would become blind.
The Eye Care for Animals in Tustin,
Ca. needed Wonder's eyes to mature and it became necessary to wait several months
to calendar the procedure.
Lashes currently rubbing are due to a
corneal birth defect. Wonder would experience extreme discomfort and irritation
without receiving a a soothing topical eye gel several times a day that
help prevent the cornea from
scarring.
Donations covered the cost of Wonder’s
treatment that saved his vision.
Two other cats around the same time had the same genetic in utero defect
that were helped with donated dollars.
Six year old Sierra was adopted just before her surgery
and her pet-parent reports a remarkable difference even in her
personality once relieved of the pain, but unfortunately has loss
site in one eye.
A three year old black cat
named Jet also had
successfully undergone the treatment for eyelid
agenesis.
