Cerebellar
Hypoplasia (CH):
●
Symptoms: Loss of balance and coordination, head tremors, and unusual
walking gait.
●
It is non-contagious because it is a neurological condition. It is
non-progressive, meaning it won’t get worse.
●
Cats are not in pain, have a normal life expectancy, need no extra care
or medical treatment, and are recommended to be indoor only.
●
Diagnosis: Expert Veterinarian diagnosis or CBC & urinalysis tests.
●
Causes: Cerebellum (which controls motor-skills and coordination) is
undeveloped at birth. The mother could have had a virus while pregnant or
trauma could have occurred in the womb.
●
Modified furniture when owning a CH cat: high litter box sides, carpet
and rugs allow traction, high food and water bowls, modified furniture to
prevent damage.
●
When it is not CH, but has similar symptoms: Exposure to toxins,
nutritional deficiency, ear infections, infectious diseases, physical trauma,
brain lesions, cancer.
